Performances

A Kathak performance consists of two parts: these are called Nritta and Nritya.

Nritta is the pure dance form, which involves a tremendous sense of rhythm with graceful body movements, fast pirouettes and mesmerising footwork. Nritya is expressional dance based on narrative; it communicates a story or a poem using the mediums of mime, hand and facial gestures and symbolic body postures.

The Kathak dancer entertains and educates the spectators with the stories of Gods and deitieds as well as building abstract narratives through movements while improvising with and around rhythmic cycles. Mayala is committed to promoting the understanding and appreciation of Kathak by creating an entertaining and engaging experience of this ancient and beautiful art form.
